  1. Hello Mayor. Congrats on winning the election and finishing up the budget. I did a search for your contact information and found this site. I hope you don’t mind if I use it to ask you a quick question.

I live in the Ranches area and a few weeks ago a crew dug out the large collection pond just east of Hidden Hollow Elementary school. They moved out a lot of dirt and cleared a path for water to flow, as well as knocked down the wild growth. However they didn’t finish the job. A large eyesore dirt hill was left behind on which the kids love to play king of the hill. Can you tell me what the plan is for this area and when to expect crews to come and continue the work?

    High Regards,
    Justin Peck

    • Justin,

Thank you for your comment. You are welcome to post here or email me at mayor@emcity.org.

To answer your question about the detention basin, that area is being prepped for landscaping. Our Parks crews and public works crews were out there working to prep for the new landscape. Some of the material that is mounded up will be used as fill material for another project. Rather than move the material twice, they opted to let it sit for a little bit. The other issue is that much of that material was quite wet from being excavated out of the bottom of the basin and they wanted to give time for it to dry out. I believe they will be resuming work on that project soon. Much of the landscape will be natural vegetation with grass around the rim and down a portion of the sides. I hope that helps! Let me know if you have other questions.

      • Hey I also had a question about this, but more along the lines of developing it. Would the city ever considered teaming up with Department of Wildlife resources, and turning the area into a community fishery? That seems like a great place for it. If not there, has the city looked into other places to develop a local fishing pond in the near future? We could really use one out here. I think lots of citizens would like one. It would enhance recreation opportunities. I know Herriman has one along with Highland and American Fork area. And they are a great additions to the community and are very successful. That was the first place that I thought of what it could be as I drove by!

      • Joey,

That is a great idea and I would be willing to consider a project like that in the future, though I’m not sure that this would be the right location. this detention pond is not meant to have any significant volume of standing water as it is used for storm runoff, holding tank overflow, and retention for water from well startup. To fill the pond with any significant amount of water would be problematic. I do however like the idea of doing this elsewhere and it may be possible in the future. For today, my biggest concern is spending money to complete projects that have already been started. At some point I will be looking in to next moves, but for now I want to be most effective with existing resources by completing projects where we have already invested tax dollars.

The timeline on this area has been pushed back a little bit due to some issues currently being worked through with the county. Grant funds were going to pay for a portion of this project and we are working through resolving the details with the county. work will be progressing soon.

      • You HAVE GOT TO DO SOMETH ING ABOUT MT AIRY DRIVE. THE CONSTRUCTION HAS BEEN EXTREMELY FRUSTATING. IF YOU DO DO NOT DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS TODAY i WILL BE SUING THE CITY. YOU HAVE NOT COMMUNICATED ANYTHING. YOUR LAST CITY COUNCIL INDICATED THIS PROJECT WASN’T EVEN BEING DONE IN 2015. YOU HAVEN’T SENT INFORMATION OR HAD THE CONTRACTYOR COMMUNICATE THE RAOD CLOSURES, ETC. i WAS SUPPORTIVE OF YOU AS MAYOR BUT NOT ANY LONGER. YOU NEED TO GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER AS A CITY ABOUT ROAD WORK WITHIN THE CITY. BECAUSE i HAVE NOT SEEN WORSE PLANNING IN MY LIFE. AGAIN DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE. AND YES I AM YELLINHG AT YOU BECAUSE I AM EXTREMELY PISSED AT YOU AND THE CITY RIGHT NOW

  2. Hi Mayor Pengra,

I am hoping you can do something about the city ordinance that makes it illegal to carry a firearm in an Eagle Mountain city park. Concealed Carry Permit holders have gone through extensive background checks and have qualified at the state level to carry a firearm for self-protection and the protection of those around them. Additionally, Utah state allows for open carry of a firearm without a permit by anyone not legally barred from possessing one. Why should Eagle Mountain place restrictions on the 2nd Amendment that the state does not? I am proud to live in Eagle Mountain and I support you as mayor. I live here partly because I would never live somewhere like Salt Lake City. This law does not make anyone safer, nor does it feel right in Eagle Mountain. Please make Eagle Mountain city parks safer places by allowing law-abiding citizens to protect themselves without resorting to breaking the law. Thank you.

And by the way, thank you so much for your tireless efforts in preventing the prison from moving here! Great job!
